From Barefoot MomEase owner and founder:
My name is Tina L. Risley, CMT. I am originally from St Louis, MO. After traveling the world, I decided to settle down on the Central Coast.
I became a massage therapist after coming off of active duty in the Army. I received my diploma in massage therapy from Missouri College in 2005 . I recently completed my Associates degree in Science in December of 2010.
When I originally began massage in 2005, I intended to focus on Sports Massage. However, after I experienced first-hand the positive impact of being massaged during my own pregnancy, birth and recovery (all 4 of them!). I had an overwhelming desire to share this experience with pregnant mothers everywhere!I became certified in prenatal and postnatal massage.
I believe it is of utmost importance for mothers and fathers to massage their babies. Touch is the most important of all senses. Infant massages helps to calm a fussy baby as well as promote brain growth, and enhance the growth of the nervous system. Because of the overwhelming evidence provided in studies fromt the Touch Research Institure in Florida and many others, I decided to become a Certified Infant Massage Instructor in 2008.
I am nationally certified by NCBTMBsince March of 2006. I am a member of AMTA since September 2005.

From Jayna Troutman--Infant Massage Instructor:
My name is Jayna Troutman and I have resided in the five-cities area of the Central Coast for nearly twenty years. I have two beautiful children who have grown up here as well. I love this area and have devoted my life to making our community stronger through focusing on serving the children and families that live here.
I first began my career as a Case Manager/Child Development Specialist with early start services in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. I saw first hand the power that early intervention could have on a child and their families. Unfortunately, a back injury forced me from the work that I loved so much. I went to see a massage therapist to help in my healing. Her touch helped heal my back, and my spirit. Not long after, I began to research using infant massage as a therapy for infants with special needs. The wonderful thing that I found was that it was great for both normally developing and special needs children alike.
In 2008, I attended the California Holistic Institute in San Luis Obispo and received my certification as a massage practitioner. In March of 2011, I received my certification as a Certified Educator of Infant Massage through the International Association of Infant Massage. Now encompassing both my love for people and my love of massage, I specialize in prenatal massage and teaching infant massage to parents and caregivers.

Massage during pregnancy provides many benefits. Medical science has long recognized the value of massage therapy to aid in the treatment of many conditions and diseases. Studies prove massage reduces anxiety & depression. It can improve immune function & promote better sleep. The Touch Research Institute's studies on prenatal massage showed a decrease in anxiety and stress hormones (norepinephrine) which cross through the placenta to the baby. There were fewer pregnancy complications, as well as, a reduction in premature birth rates. The normal increase in blood volume during pregnancy puts stress on the whole circulatory system. Massage supports the circulatory and lymphatic systems by promoting the movement of blood and lymph. This action assists the heart and reduces swelling throughout pregnancy. Massage helps to alleviate stress on the weight bearing joints of the hips, pelvis, knees, and ankles, relieving soreness in the muscles that support the additional weight of the baby. Massage therapy provides a nurturing, soothing touch promoting an overall sense of well-being in the mother. Reassurance, nurturing, and relaxation for the mother have far-reaching impacts on her growing baby. Babies sense and respond to their mother’s stress level as registered by her heartbeat. The birthing process is often made easier and less complicated by regular massage during pregnancy and throughout the labor process.
